Love & Death

Talented and wealthy luminaries have been attracted to the Thames west of London for centuries, making the area something of a rich person’s playground. Yet, no one is immune from the great human experiences of love and death. Passion and pain remind us of our common humanity and yet are manifest in a variety of different ways.
This series of online talks will explore how London Luminaries loved and lost, married and mourned. Expect tales of family feuds, enduring love and even an exploding corpse.
Love & Death

We have diversified our schedule this season to make it easier for people to attend and participate in the lively Q&A sessions that end the live talks. The main series of six talks will run from 4-19 October 2023. In addition, we are offering a selection of stand-alone talks in the summer and autumn. Each 30-minute talk will be delivered using Zoom and will begin at 7 p.m. They will be chaired by Professor Judith Hawley of the Department of English, Royal Holloway, University of London. Time will be allowed for questions and answers at the end. The events will end at around 8 p.m. Attendees will be sent a Zoom link by email about an hour before each talk begins.

Tickets are free but we encourage you to make a £5 donation for each talk, if you are able. This will be divided equally between the fifteen participating organisations. Tickets can be booked separately and there are incentives for block bookings.
