Pope’s Grotto
Alexander Pope’s Grotto is the last remaining part of his famous villa and gardens which he built in 1720 on the banks of the Thames at Twickenham. A mine of minerals gathered from all parts of the world, it is loaded with significance for British culture and for the birth of the English Landscape Garden Movement.
The Grotto is situated within Radnor House School. The school has been working with the Pope’s Grotto Preservation Trust since 2010 to undertake a significant conservation project. The programme is nearly complete and the Grotto will soon reopen to the public.

The closest train stations are Twickenham and Strawberry Hill (both SW Railway, 10-15 minutes’ walk from the school).
The R68 (Kew-Hampton Court Station) and 33 (Fulwell Station-Castelnau) buses stop right outside the school at the ‘Pope’s Grotto’ stop.
